A uniquely-flavoured and yum smoothie with over 30g of protein 💪💪 I was thinking about making the chia layer with orange juice for some ultimate colour contrast, but didn’t want any curdling going on. I’ll try it another time when I’m after a more summery refreshing flavour and don’t use any milks.
I saw a post the other day where someone said they think protein is a placebo, and that you should just eat fruit and veg, which made me pretty mad. If you’re vegan you’ve gotta make an effort to eat enough of this important nutrient! It’s what your hair, skin, nails and muscles are built from and your body doesn’t produce it. If you’re deficient you’re hardly going to be strong and healthy. Even as an omnivore, after a month of consuming more protein supplements in smoothies every other day, I’ve found my once-weak and incredibly slow-growing fingernails are now strong and hard. It’s awesome. Please eat a balanced diet and make sure you get enough protein and fats as well as fruit and veg. And on that note… ———————————————————————————– Ingredients
1/2 cup frozen blueberries
2 tbsp coconut yoghurt
2 tbsp vanilla vegan protein powder
Splash plant milk (I used soy)
Orange chia layer
1/2 cup white chia seeds
1 cup plant milk
2 tsp finely-grated orange zest
1 tsp orange blossom water
1 tsp vanilla bean paste
Extra orange zest
Stir all chia layer ingredients together and set aside to soak and thicken.
Blend all blueberry smoothie ingredients together with a handheld blender until thick, smooth and intensely purple.
In a mason jar or tall glass, layer half the blueberry smoothie. Top with chia pudding (add some blueberries in the middle if you like) then pop some blueberry smoothie on top of that again.
Sprinkle extra blueberries, orange zest and macadamias on top.
ALSO, PSA – please don’t use straws. Plastic straws are not recyclable and so many end up in the ocean each year it’s terrible. Paper straws are better if you really need a straw! But I won’t be using any in my pics from now on 🙂
